ISSUES
Increase Student Enrollment
South Bend Community School Corporation should be the number one choice for parents in our local community. Our magnet and educational program offerings should be tailored to meet the learning needs of every child. We also want to have the best teachers and the safest learning environment for our students. Finally, we want to use innovative and proven curriculum options to guarantee that SBCSC students receive the best education possible.
Increase Student Achievement
We should continue to expand our pre-k offerings. This would not only help drive student enrollment but also help students get off on the right foot in their educational careers. We must raise the graduation rate and scores on statewide accountability assessments such as IREAD-3, ILEARN, and the SAT. We need a clear plan to address student learning gaps when they fall behind. If students are reading below grade level, they need a robust, multi-tier, personalized plan to help them catch up. To do this, we must make data-informed decisions.
Attract & Retain The Best Talent
The most important resource for any organization is its people. We need the strongest professional workforce to serve our students. We also need to ensure that our teachers and other educational professionals have the support they need to do their jobs successfully. This means we must strive to continue increasing compensation for teachers, counselors, social workers, and other hourly employees.
Keep Revenues In South Bend
Locally owned businesses are the bedrock of our community. They help to make us all more prosperous, allied, and secure. We should look for opportunities to use locally owned vendors and businesses whenever possible. Money spent on local businesses keeps that money in the area and helps to increase school funding in the long term, as local property and other taxes form the bulk of public school finances.
